They were fishing near Longlands, Delportshoop, on Monday at around 16:00. They appear to have drowned after being swept away, said police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana.
"The police were alerted to the incident of drowning just after the pair were swept [away in] the river. The South African Police Service's Search and Rescue Team from Kimberley was summoned to the scene and immediately launched a search," said Tawana. "The bodies of the two were recovered [on Tuesday] before 11:00 in the Vaal River, a few metres from the spot where they were reported to have drowned," said Tawana."Rivers, streams and dams in the Northern Cape are currently experiencing high levels of water [after] the recent rains. Fishers and bathers are advised to avoid fishing and swimming in rivers, streams or dams," said Tawana.
