WACO – Baylor’s hopes of repeating as Big 12 champions took a major hit Saturday night.
The Wildcats possessed the ball for 37:37 and ran 18 more plays . Baylor, which had averaged 261.7 yards rushing during a three-game winning streak against Kansas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma, was held to 103 yards on the ground.Kansas State coach Chris Klieman called the victory a great victory “because we know how hard it is to win here.”
The Wildcats marched 80 yards in 12 plays. Howard found 6-4 Ben Sinnott in the end zone above 6-1 Christan Morgan for a 19-yard touchdown. Sinnott, who entered the game with 15 receptions for 182 yards and zero touchdowns, finished with seven catches for 89 yards with two TDs.On fourth-and 3 at the Bears 19, a Shapen to Monaray Baldwin completion netted just one yard. Five plays later, D.J. Giddens powered into the end zone from 1 yard for a 31-3 lead.
As he has done several times, Howard thrived after Martinez apparently injured his right knee on a quarterback sneak late in the first quarter, completing 11-of-14 passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. He finished 19 of 27 for 196 yards and three touchdowns. A 12-play, 97-yard touchdown drive followed, setting the tone for the rest of the half. Howard found Sinnott for a 15-yard scored.
