Temperatures are forecast to soar over 40 degrees across much of Victoria on Monday. The CFA has warned people in bushfire-risk areas to be prepared to leave early.
Victorians won’t be able to rely on a cooling sea breeze to temper the sweltering heat on Monday, with temperatures forecast to soar over 40 degrees across much of the state.
A spokesman for the State Control Centre said it expected high temperatures in north-west Victoria on Monday, and extreme fire danger ratings in six districts, including across metropolitan Melbourne. Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Lincoln Trainor said Monday was shaping as a “very hot day” compared to December averages, and much of the state would reach a top temperature 12 to 16 degrees higher than usual.
If Melbourne reaches 41 degrees on Monday, it will be the hottest day in Victoria since January 2023, and the warmest December day in the city since 2019.
