Travel delays are expected as communities in the north of the state brace for one of the hottest days of the year.
Victorians have been told to expect extreme heat on Monday, as a heatwave descends on the state from the north.
A heat dome trapping hot air formed over tropical and central Australia this week, with the hot air now shifting east, peaking over south-east states from Sunday to Tuesday. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to ease from Tuesday as a cooler south-westerly change moves across the state on Monday.Travel delays are expected for regional areas, as V/Line implements extreme weather timetables both today and tomorrow.
On Sunday, Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines will follow partial extreme heat tables, while Bendigo, Swan Hill, Echuca, Seymour and Shepparton lines will implement full extreme heat timetables.The Country Fire Authority is warning of extreme fire danger throughout the western and central parts of Victoria.With temperatures set to soar further on Monday, Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas has urged Victorians to take care during the heatwave.
She encouraged people to check on vulnerable people in their communities, including the elderly, pregnant and those with chronic health conditions.
