He initially signed a two-year deal to join Melbourne ahead of the 2022 season, leaving the Bulldogs, before he was handed another year for 2024. Cronk, who played a staggering 323 games for the Storm, winning a Dally M Medal in 2013 and 2016, knew straight away Meaney was going to succeed in Melbourne.
“Melbourne Storm have a history of teaching players the way they think rugby league should be played, and if the player buys in anything is possible.” Meaney’s success raises two big questions. Does Bellamy have the best eye for talent the NRL has ever seen? Or does the Storm system allow players to flourish?
For Cronk, that risk is exactly what some players need in certain cases to forward their careers, taking a step backwards to work towards the bigger goal.
