Paisley Testa and Emmy Wrba both scored to help North Hunterdon edge Summit in the North Jersey, Group 3 final.
That’s music to coach Amy Masters’ ears when considering the players it has lost to graduation after back-to-back state title runs.After sixth-seeded Summit jumped out to a 1-0 lead early, fifth-seeded North Hunterdon, No. 7 in the NJ.com Top 20, settled down, turned the tables and held on for a 2-1 win in the final round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Group 3 tournament in Annandale.“Every year is special because it’s a new team, a new thing,” said senior Molly Claus.
Her poise and unflappability are contagious and helped the team settle in after falling behind in the opening five minutes. Kendall Varty was just as effective in the middle of the field, helping thwart most of what Summit was trying to conjure as the minutes waned. The senior helped keep the team at ease on defense but the freshman supplied the first big offensive punch to bring North Hunterdon back to a level playing field. Paisley Testa scored roughly five minutes after Darcey Chapman gave Summit the early advantage.
