The man was hit by the train shortly after 3:30 p.m. just west of the Madison station, an NJ Transit spokesperson told NJ Advance Media. None of the 60 customers aboard the train were hurt.
The Morris & Essex Line train was originally scheduled to arrive in Dover at 4:05 p.m., authorities said.
