Flaim paced the offense and entire 'D' excelled to direct Hilltoppers to 14th state title
Summit seemed to be on its way to a relatively breezy Group 2 state championship, but then Manasquan suddenly summoned the scrappy, ain’t-over-till-it’s-over determination that pushed the Warriors into the final in the first place.
The second-ranked Hilltoppers led by three goals at the half and raised it to five by the start of the fourth quarter, yet had to fight off that determined Manasquan club with great purpose over the final 6:04 for a 7-6 victory and their second consecutive title Saturday in Basking Ridge. Senior attackman Daniel Flaim scored a game-high three goals and junior attackman Cole Sabol netted two to lead an offense that guided the Hilltoppers to a 7-2 lead with just 8:07 remaining in the game. That count likely wold have been higher if not for the outstanding goalkeeping of Manasquan senior Nick Bounassi.
