NJ high school students say two of their baseball coaches went to a strip club while on a preseason trip leading to them resigning and being let go.

NJ high school students told NBC10 that two of their baseball coaches went to a strip club while on a preseason trip leading to them resigning and being let go.Mainland Regional High School’s baseball team is facing a rocky start to the season with their head coach resigning.

This comes after an incident occurred during a recent preseason team trip to Myrtle Beach. NBC10’s Shaira Arias has the story. It's been a rocky start for Mainland Regional High School's baseball season after their head coach resigned and a volunteer coach was removed in recent days. On Sunday, March 29, Superintendent Mark Marrone announced that head baseball coach Joe Smith resigned from his position on Saturday, just one day after an unnamed volunteer coach was removed from the staff. The school district said that the resignation and removal comes after they were made aware of an incident during the baseball program's preseason trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. According to students who spoke off camera with NBC10, at least one of the adults traveling with the team visited a strip club during their trip."I think everybody is shocked, surprised, because it as I told the kids were focused on moving forward," said Billy Kern, the athletic director."We are not going to dwell on it or point fingers and move forward.""In terms to the messages to the parents is full transparency and communication," he said."This is what is going on. We are addressing certain situations. It takes time. I’m wearing two hats with this. It’s a personnel matter, we can’t really get into it." Senior third baseman Jake Blum said he was on that preseason trip and that despite the unexpected shake up, the team is focused on the season ahead. "We feel a little bit shaken up but it's nothing that will change our team mojo," he said."We just have to sit back and play the game we love. We all decided to play for a reason for a reason, right. We love the game and we love each other. We just have to trust the people around us."
