The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has closed an investigation into two previous recalls of the Ford Focus after determining that Ford Motor Co. has resolved the safety concerns.
Government safety regulators announced on Monday that they have closed an investigation into two previous recalls of the Ford Focus . The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ) determined that Ford Motor Co. has addressed their concerns. In 2018, Ford recalled approximately 1.5 million Ford Focus sedans from the 2012-2018 model years due to a potential power loss .
The issue stemmed from a malfunctioning canister purge valve and inadequate software detection when it was stuck open. This could cause excessive vacuum in the fuel management system, potentially deforming the fuel tank. Ford addressed the software issue in the 2018 recall and updated it again in a separate 2019 recall. However, in 2023, NHTSA reopened the investigation after receiving 98 consumer complaints about continued power loss. This fall, Ford launched a customer satisfaction program to replace the canister purge valve in affected vehicles. Ford stated that the valve may not function properly, leading to hesitation or stalling at low speeds. NHTSA confirmed that Ford's latest program resolved their concerns, prompting the closure of the investigation into the previous recalls
