.Nextdoor nudges users not to argue with neighbors about midterm elections
Nextdoor announced on Tuesday that it was partnering with Vote.org to use its technology to promote voter turnout and improve the democratic process. The partnership will do so by encouraging voters to register to vote and be civil while discussing the midterm elections."Change starts in the neighborhood, and while every neighborhood is unique, everyone wants their community to thrive," said Sarah Friar, CEO of Nextdoor, in a press release.
Nextdoor will incorporate pop-ups into its interface that it intends to help users have a"civil political discourse." If the website's algorithm detects or predicts"hurtful or harmful language," it will insert a pop-up reminder to tell users to avoid doing so. It also promised to keep interactions on the platform"safe and productive" through content moderation.
The local-based social network is the latest technology company to announce plans to handle information-sharing during the 2022 midterm elections. YouTube and Google said they are moderating what information will be shared via search and promoting"high-quality election information" through tabs and search results on Election Day. Twitter announced on Aug. 11 that it was incorporating special labels for candidates and releasing"pre-bunks" to combat potential misinformation.
