The city's innovative Home Court program, which offers personalized diversion programs for nonviolent homeless misdemeanor offenders, celebrated its second graduate, Bobby Kelley, with a rare courthouse ceremony. Kelley, who was the first to join the program six months ago, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. "I never ever thought I would ever be in court and have this kind of outcome," Kelley said. The program has helped nearly 20 homeless Newark residents secure housing and a fresh start. Newark City Law Director Tricia Moore explained, "If they complete that program successfully, the charge is dismissed and expunged so they do not have another barrier put on the record as they go forward in the future."The program gets no funding and is managed through a partnership with numerous nonprofits and organizations in the community. Despite its holistic approach, Moore emphasized that the program is not lenient on crime. "Magistrate Liston will hold you accountable if you are not meeting us halfway, if you are not doing your part," Moore said. Sarah Devary, another participant, has been nearly 80 days sober in a treatment program and has an apartment waiting for her. "I would still be out on the street and I would still be the lost person I was, " Devary said. Participants and organizers believe the program is making a significant impact on the community. "The more people that they get in here, the more support the system is getting and the community coming together and helping people out," Devary added. The Home Court program, run entirely by volunteers, continues to offer hope and second chances to those in need. "It takes a simple hello from a stranger to change a whole lifestyle," Devary said.Michigan fired football coach Sherrone Moore on Wednesday, saying a university investigation had found evidence of an “inappropriate relationship."Columbus police released dash camera and bodycam video showing the moments an officer crashed into a pickup truck while responding to a 911 call.Shooting in Dublin apartment complex involving two people'I lost my little girl': Family mourns child after accidental shooting death
