Playgrounds were also reopened to families, but dog-runs were still closed, according to the mayor. In playgrounds in Brooklyn, parents and their children were back in swings, climbing jungle gyms and enjoying a cool-down near the water sprinklers. The mayor said mitigation efforts have proven successful, as the number of new daily cases has dropped to an average of under 300 a day over the last two weeks. During its peak, the city saw an average of over 4,000 new cases daily, according to data from the Health Department.The number of New Yorkers testing positive for the virus is around 1% with thousands of tests being administered daily, de Blasio said.
