New York City offices reopened today—here’s what that looks like: by theothersarahh

New York City office workers can now return to their desks, but don’t expect a surge of white-collar workers in the city anytime soon—as many as 90% of Manhattan office workers could keep working remotely in the coming months.

Offices that do open their doors again must do so at 50% capacity , and they must provide workers with face masks and adhere to hygiene and sanitation standards, like disinfecting shared workstations in between each user. Workers returning to an office building will likely encounter new safety requirements like single-capacity elevators, staggered work schedules, one-way hallways, and even 6-foot circles around their desks to help enforce social distancingIt will be a major test not only for employers but also the city’s infrastructure as public officials and private employers balance getting businesses up and running again with maintaining public safety.
