The pub was created as part of the recent restoration of the Byron Museum in Ravenna, Italy
A new tavern has opened in Italy in honour of Nottingham poet Lord Byron . To commemorate 200 years since the death of the poet, whose family home is in Newstead, the Byron Museum in Ravenna, Italy has created the Byron Tavern.
George Gordon Byron is often credited with inspiring Britain’s wealthy to take part in the Grand Tour of Italy, which still attracts millions of people, including more than six million Brits who have visited Italy this year alone. The poet is buried in Hucknall and earlier this year it was announced that major plans are being drawn up to safeguard the St Mary Magdalene Church in the town. This site has a number of notable figures buried there, including Lord Byron and Ada Lovelace, as well as boxer Ben Caunt.
He even joined the Greek War of Independence and died leading a campaign in 1824, at the age of 36, from a fever in Missolonghi, Greece. During his travels the poet had several affairs with married woman in Venice, and moved to the Palazzo Guiccioli, home of the Countess Guiccioli from 1819 until 1821.
