Netflix has spent plenty of time developing potential flagship properties over the years, but few have returned on that investment as much as Stranger Things. The show first premiered in 2016 as a small-time supernatural kidnapping thriller, but by the time its final season arrived last year, creatives had earned a blank check to spend as much money and take it in any direction they desired.
As is to be expected with any show that attracts such a large audience, the ending of Stranger Things was quite divisive among the fan base — most would agree it avoided the same disaster-level ending as Game of Thrones, even if it did play things a bit safe. The story of Stranger Things is far from over now that Season 5 has come to a close, though. The Duffer brothers have already confirmed that they’re developing another Stranger Things series, but it will not feature any characters from the original show. It will instead focus on the mysterious rock that a young Henry Creel found inside the suitcase while he was exploring the cave, the same suitcase that gave him his powers. It’s still unclear when this new offshoot will arrive, but fans don’t have to wait that long to return to Hawkins. Netflix has already announced a new animated spin-off, Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85, which will be released on April 23. The animated series will take place between the events of Seasons 2 and 3, and it will feature all members of the original gang as they take on a new adventure. Less than one month ahead of the premiere of Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85, Netflix has released what will likely be the final full-length trailer for the show.
