Rain’s the word this Mother’s Day.

Sodden Mother's Day possible for 1,700km stretch of coastline from Melbourne to Brisbane as another wet weather system barrels through eastern Australia

One of the few exceptions on that stretch is in south-west Sydney, where Badgerys Creek has only picked up 13mm so far. The next few days those showers will be fewer and farther between than they were along the central coastlines on the weekend. Close to 70 per cent of the state saw experienced more than 20mm, with some inland towns exceeding 50mm. Eastern Australia is at risk of a Mother's Day washout this weekend.

Weekly rain totals are likely to exceed 10mm across 70 per cent of NSW, with totals above 50mm again a good chance in parts of the Upper Western and along the entire length of the coastline. Saturday looks like the peak of this week’s wet weather with a rain and storm band moving east across southern Queensland and eastern parts of NSW and Victoria.
