The FBI report revealed that Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect in the New Orleans vehicle-ramming attack, conducted online searches related to the Christmas market attack in Germany just before carrying out his own attack.
The man suspected of carrying out the New Year's Day vehicle-ramming attack in New Orleans searched online for information about the Christmas market car attack in Germany just hours before his own attack on Bourbon Street. According to an FBI report released Tuesday, a search of Shamsud-Din Jabbar 's electronics revealed that he conducted numerous online searches related to the New Orleans attack as late as mid-November.
These searches included inquiries about accessing a balcony on Bourbon Street and details about Mardi Gras, which takes place in March. The report also stated that hours before the attack, Jabbar searched for information about the car that rammed into innocent victims at a Christmas market in Germany just ten days prior. On November 10, 2024, Jabbar traveled from Houston, Texas to New Orleans by train and returned that evening by bus. During his visit, he inspected an apartment for rent on Orleans Street. Though he initially applied for the apartment, he subsequently informed the landlord that he had changed his mind. Jabbar, who resided in Houston at the time, drove a rented truck down Bourbon Street on New Year's Day, tragically killing 14 people and injuring 57. Police engaged in a shootout with Jabbar as he attempted to detonate coolers filled with explosives, resulting in his death. The FBI's report updated the official number of victims to 136, including two businesses that sustained damages. The report emphasized that the public's overwhelming response provided crucial leads in the investigation, bringing the FBI closer to providing answers to the families of the victims and those affected by the New Year's Day attack.
