The recent Nvidia source code leak may hint at a new Nintendo Switch model that is being developed, which could be a successor or the Switch Pro.
The Nvidia source code leak may hold information about a new model or successor for the Nintendo Switch, possibly the Nintendo Switch Pro, and Nintendo Switch 2 has begun trending on Twitter since the announcement.
There were rumors circulating in 2021 about a Nintendo Switch Pro model with 4K capabilities, but these have yet to be confirmed. The PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S launched at the end of 2020, which prompted speculation that Nintendo would have an upgraded system to compete with them. After months of rumors, Nintendo announced the Nintendo Switch OLED Model in July 2021, with an October release date. The OLED Switch has a much more impressive screen for handheld mode than the base Switch, but it wasn't the hardware upgrade that fans were expecting. There were some rumormongers who insisted that the Switch Pro was still on the way and this was a stop-gap release. The chip shortages and labor issues caused by the pandemic could very well have delayed any new system, as Microsoft and Sony are still struggling to meet the demand for their current systems. It's possible that there is some credence to the Switch Pro rumors. Nvidia was the victim of a cyberattack, which has resulted in employee credentials and business information leaking online. According to LuigiBlood on Twitter, there are files in the leak that could be related to a new Nintendo Switch model. Since this reveal, Nintendo Switch 2 has begun to trend on Twitter. They said Nvidia DLSS source code leaked except I instantly see "nvn2" in the screenshot which sounds... Switch 2 specific code?https://t.co/sGdANFTYsg — Yakumono March 1, 2022 There are folders in the leak listed"nvn2", while the API used for the regular Switch is nvn. This isn't direct confirmation that a new Switch model is in development and the information should be taken with a grain of salt until it's confirmed. It's possible that this designation is being used for something else, though it's most likely intended for a Nintendo machine. If legit, then the new Nintendo machine could have DLSS support in its games. The Steam Deck is an impressive handheld system that is capable of more impressive technical feats than the Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo might want something similar for a theoretical Nintendo Switch Pro. The Nintendo Switch and the OLED are still selling incredibly well and the ongoing chip shortages mean that the company might not be in a rush to push a new piece of hardware on the market. The Switch is starting to show its age in the visuals department, though the cartoonish nature of many of the first-party Nintendo games means that this isn't as notable for the system's exclusives. If a brand-new Switch 2 model is on the way, either a Switch Pro or a Nintendo Switch successor system, then it might be smart for Nintendo to launch it alongside the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, as that would be a major draw, in the same way that the original game was for the base Nintendo Switch in 2017.
