A new meeting location has been announced for an upcoming public meeting concerning a draft report released recently by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that includes a tentative plan which recommends the removal of nine dams along the Fox River in the Aurora area.
The upcoming meetings will all be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A new location has been announced for the Sept. 18 meeting, which will now take place at the Kane County Branch Court, 530 S. Randall Road in St. Charles.Other meetings planned include Sept. 19 at the Heritage Ballroom at the Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way in Elgin, and Sept. 20 at Waubonsee Community College, 18 S. River St. in Aurora.
The draft report released last week is part of the Fox River Connectivity and Habitat Study. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Fox River Study Group are partnering with the Corps of Engineers to assess the feasibility of “restoring riverine habitat and connectivity for fishes, mussels and wildlife” along a stretch of the Fox River from Algonquin to Montgomery, according to a press release from the corps.Three alternative plans were considered.
