A new FOX-sponsored postseason basketball tournament would involve 16 teams from three power conferences that don't make the NCAA Tournament.
The 16-team event featuring schools from the Big East, Big Ten and Big 12 would take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas after the NCAA Tournament’s Elite 8 games,“Under terms of the proposed arrangement, the top 16 teams in the Big 12, Big East and Big Ten that did not qualify for the NCAA tournament — as ranked by the NET — would be required to play in the Fox event even if they are invited to the NIT,” Davis wrote. “Those three leagues have rights deals with Fox.
The Big East and Big 12 are already “locked in,” one source told NJ Advance Media. “There’s a lot to be worked on. The goal is to get 16 teams in one city.” It’s unclear if the event would begin in 2024 or ‘25, but the source said the hope is it would begin “this year.”
