A Melbourne woman who was legally blind now has 20-20 vision, thanks to a new laser eye procedure available.
Accountant and mum-of-two Janette Dowling was so short-sighted that when she removed her glasses or contact lenses she was deemed legally blind.
The treatment, known as Smart Sight, is now available in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia and is non-invasive. "Everything was a bit hazy at first but I noticed the clock in particular, I could actually read the time and that was pretty amazing."The laser component of the surgery takes less than a minute.
Medownick eye surgeon Dr Christopher Chan said a surgeon then removed the tissue, which reshaped the eye, improving vision in 24 hours."What it does is it changes the shape of the front surface of the eye."
