City officials in Colorado Springs are looking at a project to replace two deteriorating bridges over a creek, trail and railroad, seeking to ease traffic on a congested street and make room for bikes and pedestrians.

“This work matters in people’s everyday lives,” said Landrieu, pointing to a bridge he visited last week in Hooksett, N.H., that has long needed maintenance to patch weak spots. “With these improvements we’re making, it’s estimated that the bridge life span is going to increase by 25 to 30 years.”The $18 million in planning grants outlined Wednesday is modest compared with the torrent of other recent funding announcements under the law.
She spoke Wednesday from a site near Lake Minnetonka, Minn., where the city of Excelsior, working with nearby Greenwood, is receiving federal support to plan for improvements to the Minnetonka Boulevard Bridge that connects them.
