Helping inmates find a purpose and a future, that’s the goal of a new program at the Montgomery County Sheriffs Office.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ala. - It is called IGNITE, and the hope is that it will prepare inmates for a jobs once they are released.

“Our main goal is that when you leave here, you leave here different than the way that you came in,” said Sheriff Derrick Cunningham. “This IGNITE program is about us educating those that people think that because they’re behind bars, we gave up on them,” the sheriff said. “Well, we haven’t gave up on them.”

“This is a true program where our inmates will get educated. Not only educated, but the vocational training we’re going to be providing here is going to be life-saving for them, and also for our community as a whole,” he added.
