Marvel’s First Family is suiting up for launch. A brand-new image from The Fantastic Four: First Steps has debuted courtesy of ScreenRant, giving fans their clearest look yet at the core team before their transformation into superheroes — and it’s already dripping with that stylized retro-futurism Marvel teased earlier this year.
The image features Pedro Pascal, who as Reed Richards , and he's joined by Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm , Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm , and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm . All four are dressed in classic astronaut suits, preparing for the fateful mission that will change their lives forever. Wonder what could go wrong? The moment — set before they gain their powers — drops a hint at how First Steps will revisit key elements of the team’s iconic origin without rehashing the entire backstory, mercifully. Directed by Matt Shakman, the film launches Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on July 25, 2025, and takes place in an alternate Earth where the 1960s aren’t just alive, they’re stylishly reimagined and, if we're honest, makes our world look a bit rubbish, really. While The Fantastic Four: First Steps is not a full-on origin story, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has confirmed the reboot will include flashbacks and key beats from the characters’ past — including their journey to space. And this new image clearly shows that the film won’t be skipping over that pivotal moment, while also choosing not to linger too long on it — a wise move, given that most viewers should be relatively familiar with how this goes for them. What really stands out though is that vintage flair on display. The alternate-Earth setting — described by insiders as a “Mad Men meets The Jetsons” blend — lets Marvel step outside of the Earth-616 that we know oh so well, and show us something a bit more striking. Fancy. What Is 'First Steps' About? The story of First Steps reportedly centers on the team’s battle with Galactus, the cosmic devourer teased in Eternals and Loki. But First Steps also appears to be a deeply personal tale, examining the bond between four brilliant but untested explorers who will soon become Marvel’s most famous family. Most importantly, though, this is just the beginning for them. First Steps will lead directly into Avengers: Doomsday in 2026, where the team will join the wider MCU on Earth-616.
