Officials are reminding the public that the disease is still widespread, killing over 1,000 people across the globe every week.

Health experts have issued a fresh Covid alert, advising holidaymakers to take necessary precautions this summer.

Express reports that WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed concern over the declining vaccine coverage among the over-60s and health workers, two groups highly vulnerable to Covid. The WHO continues to recommend that travellers wear face masks, maintain hand hygiene, get tested if they display Covid-19 symptoms, and consider staying home if unwell. While most countries and airlines no longer mandate vaccination, the WHO's primary advice is to ensure vaccines are up-to-date before travelling.

The latest Covid symptoms in 2024 include fatigue, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, headache, body aches, and cough, mirroring those from earlier in the pandemic. While loss of taste and smell is now less common, some may still suffer from conjunctivitis or gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea, albeit these are less frequent.
