EPACENTER’s new summer concert series features Bay Area artists who have achieved headliner status during their careers. The multidisciplinary arts center in East Palo Alto is launching its inaugural Sunset Concerts series on May 9 with Pete Escovedo, a percussionist known for his work with Santana, Azteca and his own orchestra. The show starts at 5:30 p.m. in EPACENTER’s amphitheater, located at 1950 Bay Road in East Palo Alto.Bruce Springsteen returns to Bay Area for big Chase Center show The series continues on May 30 with Escovedo’s daughter, Sheila E. An Oakland native, the “Queen of Percussion” has worked with artists including Prince, Stevie Wonder and Beyoncé, and is one of the few Bay Area artists with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her nonprofit program Elevate Oakland has championed young artists and music education, aligning with EPACENTER’s commitment to developing artistic pathways for Bay Area youth. She’ll perform at 7:30 p.m. at an afterparty following “EPACENTER Illuminated,” a fundraiser for the arts center. Solo vocalist and longtime lead singer for the Grammy-winning band Santana, Tony Lindsay comes to the EPACENTER Amphitheater on June 6 at 6 p.m. The series closes on July 25 at 5:30 p.m. with Vallejo’s legendary funk ensemble Con Funk Shun, who are making a stop at EACENTER during their national “Smooth Jukebox” tour. Tickets for the Sunset Concerts re $75 general, $125 VIP and $25 plus fees for East Palo Alto residents with ID on entry. Tickets for the Sheila E.
