KOTA KINABALU: The new Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim wants to reach out to as many people as possible, especially those who do not have access to justice.

The 61-year-old said due to geographic challenges, among others, many in Sabah and Sarawak are not able to get access to the judicial system.

“So I hope to reach out to as many as possible, especially those who feel they do not have access to justice,” he said after clocking in to work at the Kota Kinabalu High Court here Monday . Abang Iskandar also said he will try to continue the work of his two predecessors, who he said had done fantastic jobs when holding the post.Among these include strengthening and further pursuing the implementation of Artificial Intelligence systems to assist in meting out sentences in court.

“We are all aware that Sabah and Sarawak have led in the implementation of AI in the judiciary system, so we’ll try to develop on this further,” Abang Iskandar said. He said if there were other areas to be improved in the Sabah and Sarawak judicial system, he would try to do so.He replaced Tan Sri David Wong Dak Wah who retired on Feb 19.
