A new cafe, The Second Address, has opened on Capitol Hill, offering fresh food and coffee in a bright and inviting space. The cafe aims to be a welcoming community hub, located near Union Station and the Supreme Court. They emphasize high-quality, local ingredients and a 20% service charge instead of tipping.
cafe / restaurant / communal space on Capitol Hill the coffee and food is fresh and delicious, and the space is bright and inviting. I spent all morning working from there and want more people to know about this wonderful addition to the neighborhood! “The name, The Second Address, has two meanings.
The first is that we want our place to feel like an extension of your home, the kind of place where old friends meet, milestones are celebrated, and new friends are made. The second meaning: we aim to emulate the words of Abraham Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address. “With malice toward none; with charity for all…” As a business, we hope to be a positive presence. All are welcome here. Geographically, we couldn’t be in a better location for these two intentions to merge. The Second Address is located on a stretch of Massachusetts Ave. NE, just east of Union Station and in the shadow of the Supreme Court. These impressive buildings give way to quaint historic row homes and neighborhood playgrounds. Quite literally, The Second Address sits at the intersection of the political and personal. This confluence is what makes Washington DC unique and our name fitting. Our family has been part of the Capitol Hill neighborhood for many decades. Like many of our friends and neighbors, our roots are international but this is the place we call home. The Second Address is our family’s gastronomic tribute to our community.features familiar foods made fresh and a commitment to high quality, local ingredients We prioritize working with local farmers and businesses whenever possible. We are grateful to the farmers of Lancaster Fresh Farm Cooperative for many of our ingredients.Enjoy breakfast all day and lunch on our patio or in one of our beautiful 2nd floor dining rooms. To promote equitable wages across our floor and kitchen staff, we apply a 20% service charge to all tickets. Tipping is not expected and no other fees will appear on your bill. We appreciate your support to create steady, reliable food service jobs in our neighborhood.” “We desire to cultivate a sense of team work and shared effort no matter where someone works in the restaurant. In order to align our approach with the prevailing business environment for small restaurants, we’ve opted to add a 20% service charge to all tickets and to use this to support equitable pay to all our floor and kitchen staff. No additional tipping is expected and no other fees are charged. The best way to honor our excellent service is to visit us again, bring friends, and consider us as a space for your next birthday party, office meeting or holiday lunch. We desire to cultivate a sense of team work and shared effort no matter where someone works in the restaurant.
