The New Braunfels City Council is considering a proposal to invest $200,000 in pedestrian safety improvements for the downtown area. The project aims to enhance connectivity, accessibility, and safety for pedestrians.
The New Braunfels City Council is set to review a proposal later this month for a $200,000 investment in pedestrian safety improvements in the downtown area. The proposal, which focuses on enhancing the pedestrian experience, was discussed at last month's Economic Development Corporation meeting. City officials say the project aims to improve connectivity, fill in gaps, and make walkways more accessible, including ensuring they are ADA-compliant.
It will also focus on increasing safety and visibility for pedestrians. 'This project is centered on the downtown area, aiming to enhance the pedestrian experience,' said Scott McClellan, Assistant Director of Transportation at the meeting. The $200,000 would be allocated exclusively for the design phase, with construction costs expected to be significantly higher.'The funding will take us through the design phase and help us address utility coordination,' McClellan explained. 'We’re looking at construction beginning in late 2026, rather than the previously anticipated summer start.' City leaders are currently working on other ongoing development and safety projects, including the 'Last Public Exit Improvement Project'. These efforts are part of the broader goal of improving New Braunfels' infrastructure and quality of life. The proposal will be submitted to the city council for final approval, but the city has declined to comment further on the matter until after the council makes its decision. 'We will move forward with the final design and continue coordinating with utilities,' the official said
