Comal County, which includes New Braunfels, has already issued a burn ban to reduce the risk of wildfires. “Typically, we do see more brush fire calls around New Year's Eve,” said Captain Tyler Hindman, manager of the fire department's wildfire program. While fireworks are a common hazard during the holiday season, Hindman said the threat isn’t limited to pyrotechnics. A cold front moving through the area could exacerbate fire risks, with strong winds and dry conditions expected to dry out grasses and other fuels even more rapidly.
