The New Braunfels City Council has unanimously approved $4.5 million in public money for the Co-Op Marketplace — an agreement city staffers said was necessary to make the planned downtown development financially feasible.
New Braunfels moves to limit access to troublesome stretch of river The city’s subsidy is intended to close a funding gap to cover the costs of the outdoor public spaces, according to Jeff Jewell, New Braunfels’ economic and community development director. Without the public funding, the developers would likely replace those planned public areas with parking, Jewell said last month. “If the public space improvements are desired, there will need to be a contribution,” he said.
New Braunfels pushes forward on Main Plaza hotel project The company must collect employment and sales tax data from tenants and must “make a good-faith effort to provide occasional conference and work space” available for the Spark Small Business Center, which provides advising and training to start-ups in the city.
