The City Council agrees to negotiate with a developer on plans to remake the site that's currently home to New Braunfels Utilities' headquarters.
The New Braunfels City Council has agreed to move forward with negotiations for “ The Mainzer ,” a proposed hotel and restaurant development on the downtown property that's currently home to the headquarters for New Braunfels Utilities . New Braunfels Utilities plans to vacate its building on Main Plaza and build a new headquarters. Plans have been in the works since 2022 to redevelop the 1.3-acre site into what developers pitched as a 71-room hotel, bar, restaurant and garden.
New Braunfels gives green light to redeveloping old mill site In 2022, NBU had entered an agreement with Seals Family Properties to purchase and redevelop the Main Plaza site. But last April, NBU trustees terminated that agreement because terms had not been met. The city, which owns NBU, stepped in and agreed to buy the property for $4.55 million. It will lease the building back to NBU until the new headquarters is complete.
New Braunfels OKs $4.5 million subsidy for Pearl-style marketplace The agreement says the city is seeking to “divest its interest” in the property, and “enable a transformational project for the betterment of the community.” According to the document, “both parties will work to explore the methods and steps necessary to reach an agreement to develop the property at 263 Main Plaza to include design, financing, construction, operation, and the possible conveyance of the property.
