“Students will receive intervention, they will receive tutoring and they will also receive enrichment activities,” said Tracey Horn, the founder of the program. For years, Dothan City Schools has flip-flopped between a B and C grade for the district. Horn and the other educators in her program are working to raise those grades and help students find their full potential. To get the most out of their students, the program is designed with more individualized lessons, as opposed to the classroom setting where success is determined by a majority of students. “They have to teach on grade level, which limits the amount of time that they have to work with students one on one, to work with students in a small group setting,” said Horn. “The impact program will offer students that opportunity to get that intensive, differentiated instruction that they need to be successful.” While the program aims to help students reach and exceed their academic level, Horn says the program will help in more ways than one. “It starts when they’re young and if we can get them now and bring them up to proficiency now, then they will be better students in school better for our community and ultimately, they will be more successful,” said Horn.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
