Tatanka Means, Josh Duhamel, and Garrett Wareing standing together from Ransom Canyon
Netflix’s romantic Western drama Ransom Canyon is officially saddling up for a second season, and according to one of the stars, it is shaping up to be even sexier and steamier than its predecessor. Ransom Canyon, which premiered on Netflix in early 2025, blends classic Western grit with romance, family drama, and swoon-worthy character dynamics, making the show a hit with a dedicated following.
Adapted from Jodi Thomas’ book series of the same name and developed by showrunner April Blair, Ransom Canyon follows the intersecting lives of ranching families in a tiny West Texas town. The first season introduced viewers to Josh Duhamel’s Staten Kirkland, a grieving rancher rebuilding his life after loss, and Minka Kelly’s Quinn O’Grady, his emotional anchor and love interest. Their complicated relationship, along with other romantic dramas involving younger characters and troubled pasts, helped drive much of the show’s emotional pull. In an interview with Collider, The Long Walk star Garrett Wareing, who plays Lucas in Ransom Canyon, hinted that the Netflix hit series will come back stronger, sexier, and more dramatic. While Ransom Canyon already features mature themes and intense personal stakes, Wareing’s comments suggest that season 2 will be upping the ante, saying, "It's everything that you want Ransom Canyon to be." Read his full comments below: It’s kind of daunting when you set a standard for yourself, and I think we’ve done that with our careers, and it’s very exciting, but you want to keep leveling up, like you said. I will say Ransom Canyon Season 2 is sexier and steamier and more dramatic. It's everything that you want Ransom Canyon to be. Ransom Canyon’s season 1 ending left multiple character arcs unresolved, from Staten and Quinn’s tentative reunion to a love triangle involving Lucas, Lauren , and Reid , providing fresh narrative ground for the new episodes. Season 2 is set to continue the power struggle over Ransom, with Staten and Quinn central to the conflict. Season 2 has also added new cast members, with Shameless’ Steve Howey joining as Levi, Staten's half-brother, who is described as someone who “lives off the land.” The new season will also see Casey W. Johnson's Kit promoted to series regular, while Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner's Davis and Reid Collins are no longer regulars. Ransom Canyon has been described as a mix of Yellowstone-style Western drama and soap-style romance, a combination that has helped it stand out despite a mixed critical reception. Season 1 received average reviews from critics, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting a middling approval score and Metacritic scoring it in the “mixed or average” range. Still, the show managed to find success and amassed an impressive 228.9 million hours of viewership during its first season. With filming for Ransom Canyon season 2 still underway, the series is expected to have a release window of late 2026 or 2027, meaning that fans won’t have to wait too long to see how the new episodes unfold. As the new season is set to be “sexier and steamier,” Ransom Canyon looks poised to deliver another season full of romance and Western drama that might just exceed the success of the first season.
