JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run has officially launched on Netflix, and it’s already a massive hit. Not only has the premiere been met with incredible praise from fans and critics alike, but it also debuted with 4.
7 million views, and at the time of writing, Steel Ball Run is even in the top 10 non-English shows on Netflix. It’s safe to say that the Steel Ball Run anime is one of the biggest anime to come to Netflix, and it has all the makings of a generational hit for Netflix’s anime lineup. Unfortunately, it appears that Netflix has already fumbled Steel Ball Run’s release, and as it stands, it might be impossible for it to recover. Netflix Got Anime Fans Excited About Steel Ball Run For Nothing From the moment JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run was announced, a major question on everyone’s minds was Steel Ball Run's release schedule; while Netflix has gotten better at doing weekly releases, plenty of their shows do still suffer from batch releases, including Stone Ocean, and that could easily make or break Steel Ball Run, as well. Unfortunately, the actual answer was even worse than fans could have imagined. In an interview with series director Yasuhiro Kimura, Kimura stated that while production is going smoothly, even he doesn’t know when the next episodes will come out because of how long it takes to make a single episode of Steel Ball Run.Yasuhiro Kimura: I want to see it soon, too! When will it be? I don’t know. It takes a lot of time to make just one episode, but production is going smoothly, and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished episode as much as you are! It’s not Netflix’s fault that production has been taking so long, but if there was only one episode ready, they should have either marketed it as such or waited until more episodes were prepared. Instead, keeping quiet about it has run the risk of killing all the hype surrounding the series, and people are already calling them out on it. Why Steel Ball Run Deserves Better Than What Netflix Has Given It Steel Ball Run might be dead in the water due to its poor scheduling, and overall, that’s nothing but a shame. Steel Ball Run has been a fan favorite for years because of its reputation for having the most mature and all-around great writing in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, so there’s plenty to be excited about with seeing that in animation. Steel Ball Run also boasts some of the best art in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and while the anime falls short of the manga in some regards, it still does a great job of replicating Hirohiko Araki’s style, all while simultaneously boasting some of the best animation in the entire franchise to date. Related Why Netflix's New #1 Anime Is Taking Over The World Netflix’s new #1 anime is performing incredibly well and has already surpassed all other shows to become the #2 trending series in the United States. Posts 2 By Dhruv Sharma With great writing and even greater visuals, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run had the potential to be the biggest anime of 2026, but that might not happen thanks to Netflix’s poor handling of things, and as much as Netflix has improved its handling of anime in recent years, this could be the fumble that sets them back forever. 23 8.2/10 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed TV-14 Action Adventure Fantasy Supernatural Release Date October 6, 2012 Showrunner Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu Directors Naokatsu Tsuda Writers Yasuko Kobayashi Franchise Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Cast See All Creator Hirohiko Araki Main Genre Action Creator Hirohiko Araki Streaming Service Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu Studio David Production Japanese Title JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Based On Manga MyAnimeList Score 7.87 Powered by Expand Collapse
