Fire crews said the man couldn’t get out of his burning home and died. The home is a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
SAN ANTONIO — Candles and Ojos de Dios guard the house that went up in flames on Montezuma Street, killing a 61-year-old disabled man.It all began when authorities were called to the 1000 block of Montezuma Street for a structure fire just before 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Officials said the fire started from the center of the home and that they heard one person inside when they were on scene. Authorities say there were issues with a"downed power line and carport that was partially collapsed." “I knew he was in there too long…too much smoke," a neighbor who attempted to save the man told KENS 5.
He and a few other people tried to get through a side window where they had heard the man yelling from. SAPD directed fire crews to that window but it was too late when they made it inside.“I was scared…I could feel the heat and the flames started getting bigger and all this black smoke everywhere," a neighbor told KENS 5.
Authorities have confirmed that one man has died at the scene. His identity has not been revealed but he has been deemed "disabled" by officials. The house is a complete loss. Before You Leave, Check This OutNotifications can be turned off anytime in the browser settings.
