Unlike many cities, Berkeley does its own inspections, something often done by counties. The report found that Alameda County's non-inspection rate was just 3% in 2023, which is a 42% difference from Berkeley's.You've likely seen them, surcharges tacked onto the tab with different names when you eat out at Bay Area restaurants. What do they mean?"They've had significant and chronic understaffing. We found that there were two positions left vacant since 2019," said Wong.
The city's new Health, Housing, and City Services Director Scott Gilman, went on the defensive during the Berkeley City Council meeting Monday night.
