The oral medication was distributed to retailers nationwide, an FDA enforcement report said.

The voluntary recall was initiated March 2 after the pharmaceutical company received complaints"for a gel-like mass and black particles in the product."Recalls occur when manufacturers and distributors remove products “that present a risk of injury or gross deception or are otherwise defective,” according to the FDA.

Nearly 90,000 bottles of children's oral Ibuprofen medicine have been recalled, according to a Food and Drug Administration report, with health officials saying the medicine could contain a foreign substance. Pharmaceutical company Strides Pharma Inc. issued the voluntary recall March 2 because the firm received complaints"for a gel-like mass and black particles in the product," the report said.March 16, the FDA classified the recall as Level II, which identifies it a situation where exposure to the product could have temporary adverse health impacts. According to the report, 89,592 bottles of Children's Ibuprofen Oral Suspension, USP, 100 mg per 5 mL were recalled. The 4 fl. oz. bottles were manufactured by Taro Pharmaceuticals, the report said, and distributed to retailers nationwide. It wasn't immediately clear how many complaints were received, or if there were any reports of injuries.
