A popular pancake and berry snack pack from Naturipe has been recalled across thirteen states due to a failure to declare wheat and egg ingredients on the product label. The recall poses a risk to consumers with celiac disease or allergies to these ingredients, who could experience serious allergic reactions.
A pancake and berries snack pack has been recalled across 13 states, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ) announced on Wednesday. The FDA found that the label on Naturipe's 'Berry Buddies, Berries & Pancakes ' snack packs did not declare the wheat and egg in its ingredients. This omission poses a risk for people with celiac disease or allergies to wheat or eggs, who could experience serious allergic reactions if they consume these products, the FDA warned in the alert.
However, no illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported in connection with the recalled product. The 60-gram boxes, featuring mini pancakes, berries, and Canadian maple syrup, were distributed to Kroger and Meijer grocery stores in Arkansas, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, Minnesota, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The product comes in pink and purple plastic packaging with lot number 1097901 on the top, according to the FDA's alert. It is typically found in the stores' refrigerated produce or deli departments and has an expiration date of 2/25/2025. An investigation into the mislabeled product revealed that the issue stemmed from a 'label changeover failure,' which has since been corrected. The FDA emphasizes major food allergens: eggs, sesame, soybeans, fish, milk, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, and crustacean shellfish. The FDA advises customers with a wheat or egg allergy or sensitivity who have purchased the affected product not to consume it and to dispose of it or return it to their place of purchase for a full refund.
