Nationals leader David Littleproud has demanded Prime Minister Anthony Albanese apologise for the “out of touch” livestock joke he made at a black-tie agriculture awards night at Parliament House.

Nationals leader David Littleproud has called on the Prime Minister to apologise to the live export industry after making an off colour livestock joke at an agriculture gala dinner.

Mr Littleproud released a statement on Thursday and said Mr Albanese “must” apologise to the live export industry at the opening of the Bush Summit which begins on Friday. “The Prime Minister needs to show leadership and apologise to the crucial industries attending the Bush Summit and those who are deeply upset by his comment,” Mr Littleproud said.

Mr Littleproud said Labor had “turned its back” on regional Australia and the nation’s agriculture industry. On Wednesday, Mr Littleproud said the Prime Minister’s comments only reiterated how"let down and betrayed" Australian farmers were feeling, and now they would be even more encouraged and energised to join the rally on September 10.
