A 17-year-old gunman opened fire at Antioch High School in Nashville, killing a 16-year-old student and injuring another before taking his own life. Police are investigating the motive behind the shooting, revealing that the gunman was heavily influenced by online content.

A 17-year-old gunman fatally shot a 16-year-old student and wounded another before taking his own life in the cafeteria of Antioch High School in Nashville , Tennessee, on Wednesday. The shooter, identified as Solomon Henderson, entered the cafeteria and fired 10 shots from a 9mm pistol in just 17 seconds, according to the Nashville Police Department. Henderson's mother dropped him off at school, correcting an earlier statement by the police chief.

Before the attack, Henderson went to a nearby bathroom and posted social media photos, police said. The shooting was partially live-streamed on the platform Kick. The account responsible for the live stream was swiftly banned by the company, and the video was removed. Kick issued a statement condemning violence and stating their cooperation with law enforcement. The gun used in the shooting was purchased in Arizona in 2022 by an unidentified individual. The weapon was not reported stolen, according to police. Henderson appears to have left behind two documents totaling 339 pages, which homicide investigators are currently reviewing. Authorities stated that Henderson was significantly influenced by online content, particularly from non-traditional and potentially harmful websites. The FBI is actively collaborating with the Nashville Police Department to understand the ideological motivations behind the shooting. The victim who was fatally shot has been identified as Josselin Corea Escalante, a 16-year-old student. A 17-year-old male student sustained a graze wound to the arm and was treated at a local hospital before being released. The school's security system, Omnilert, which partially relies on existing camera networks, did not detect the shooter's weapon due to his proximity to the cameras. School officials explained that the system requires clear visibility of the weapon to trigger an alarm. This incident highlights the limitations of security systems in preventing unpredictable acts of violence.
