Six Cup Series teams recently conducted essential tire testing at a concrete short track to evaluate and improve tire performance.
NASCAR has tested new tire compounds with six Cup Series teams after excessive wear issues in a previous race.During a race in March, issues surfaced with the same Goodyear tire combination used since the previous September. Drivers faced excessive wear, unable to exceed 47 to 50 laps without risking tire cording and loss of air pressure, largely because the tires failed to lay rubber on the track effectively.
The tire did fall off quite a bit. Over 30 laps it was almost a second – pretty good falloff. That's falling off fast enough to where if your car is a little better than the next guy, you can kind of manage the tire and pass the guys in front of you.'Chase Briscoe also weighed in with his observations:'It would be different if that was the first Next Gen race we ever had here, but we've ran other races and never had that problem. Now it's like a thing to figure out.
