The 2024 WRX TR will be an enthusiast-special of the classic all-weather enthusiast daily, Subaru announced on Friday. The new trim will come with Brembo Brakes, Recaro Seats, and retuned suspension and steering.
A manual is the only transmission choice, and you can't get the adaptive dampers from the CVT-only GT model on the TR. The company says the TR will offer better road feel, steering response, and body control over the standard WRX, along with a slightly lighter curb weight thanks to a moonroof delete. The package is rounded out with a set of new, exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels paired with Bridgestone Potenza S007. Per Bridgestone, that tire was originally designed for the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, so it should have no trouble handling the WRX's unchanged 271-hp output. The standard WRX isn't quite track-ready out of the box, though, with the brakes fading quickly during our hot-weather track test at the Thermal Club. The TR's upgrades should help with that; In addition to six-piston calipers up front and two-piston grabbers in the rear, the improved Brembo braking system also includes larger pads, rotors, and a bigger master cylinder. With the braking upgrades, better seats, and improved tires, the TR should be a much better vehicle for sustained track time. Also of note, Subaru is bringing its EyeSight suite of active safety features to manual-transmission WRXs for 2024. That means you won't need to option the continuously variable transmission to get things like adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. Subaru hasn't announced pricing for the revised 2024 WRX lineup, but the company says the TR will arrive in the first quarter of 2024.
