Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor manslaughter charge in the death of a pedestrian earlier this year. Authorities say Klinghoffer, 44, hit Israel Sanchez, 47, with his SUV while making a left turn in Alhambra, California. Sanchez died at a hospital. Klinghoffer's lawyer entered the plea on his behalf, and he declined to comment after the hearing.

The former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist is being sued for wrongful death and negligence after allegedly hitting and killing a pedestrian earlier this year.
Klinghoffer was charged on Aug. 29 with vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, a misdemeanor that can bring a maximum of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Sanchez's daughter filed a wrongful death and negligence lawsuit against Klinghoffer in July. The lawsuit alleges Klinghoffer was driving with no plates and holding a phone at the time of the collision.
Klinghoffer played guitar for the Red Hot Chili Peppers from 2009 to 2019. He replaced longtime member John Frusciante, who has since returned to the band.
