That is the looming question as this French-Caribbean singer, bassist and songwriter heads to town for her San Diego headlining debut gig Friday night at the Casbah.
Born and raised in Paris, and based in Brooklyn, Oasis has worked with CeeLo Green, Les Nubians and an array of other artists. She released her debut album, “Adeline,” in 2018 and changed her stage name from Adeline to Adi Oasis last year.Her new album, “Lotus Glow,” is her most accomplished and confident work to date. Like Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Alicia Keys before her, Oasis performs neo-soul music and contemporary R&B with equal poise and skill.
She shines equally with Prince-flavored funk , sultry slow jams and shimmering ballads that hark back to the quiet-storm era of the 1980s . Equally impressive are Oasis’ well-crafted odes to her father’s native Martinique , tennis legend Serena Williams and women of color . By coincidence, Woods performed memorably at the Casbah in 2019.
