Jonathan Kuminga has been a bright spot in what has otherwise been an underwhelming season.
HOUSTON — Jonathan Kuminga doesn’t need any help in the confidence department. His belief in his elite skill set and potential is unwavering.Whether it be Andre Iguodala pulling him aside during timeouts to point out something he saw that Kuminga didn’t or Draymond Green patting Kuminga on the back when he makes a mistake, the 20-year-old feels empowered by the veterans on his team to play freely and aggressively.
Kuminga is at his best when he’s assertive and locked in on the defensive end, which he takes great pride in. “JK is much further advanced from where he was [a year ago] in terms of just understanding his role, the opponents, what tendencies are, when to dive, when to pop out, all these different things, details,” Kerr said. “He still has a ways to go, too, because he’s still very young but he’s gotten much better and we’re really happy with his development.”He had to be patient early on when he was the odd man out of coach Steve Kerr’s rotation; his minutes have fluctuated.
