A major fiber cut has caused widespread internet outages in several San Antonio school districts, including North East ISD, Northside ISD, and Judson ISD.
North East Independent School District and Northside Independent School District spokespersons have confirmed to KSAT that the internet outage is being experienced district-wide. Judson Independent School District also informed the public on its Facebook page that it is dealing with an internet outage. According to NEISD’s spokesperson, Aubrey Chancellor, a major fiber was cut, causing the district to lose internet access.
Chancellor stated that the provider, Zayo, has not issued a time frame for the repair. Barry Perez with NISD also told KSAT that the internet provider for their district is Zayo and their contract is through Education Service Center, Region 20. Perez added that the internet outage is affecting San Antonio and Austin, indicating a state-wide issue. He said the district has set up emergency phone lines for NISD schools through the district’s website and that no other disruptions are being experienced at this time. KSAT has contacted the Education Service Center, Region 20, to learn more about the internet outage and the number of school districts in its service area affected
