Former South San Antonio ISD trustee Abel Martinez has sued the district for civil rights violations, including falsely arresting him in retaliation.

A former South San Antonio Independent School District trustee has filed a lawsuit accusing the district of violating his civil rights, including having him arrested as an intimidation tactic. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in San Antonio federal court, alleges that South San ISD officials carried out an unlawful scheme last year to retaliate against the trustee for speaking out at board meetings.

South San ISD managed to avoid a TEA takeover. A board member vows to provoke one anyway. Martinez is suing the district, Lopez, Contreras and Gomez for damages, claiming they hurt his reputation, future opportunities, faith in the criminal justice system, physical health and political career. He said Thursday he decided to file the lawsuit because his construction company continues to suffer harm from the district’s actions. South San ISD had not been formally served the lawsuit as of 2 p.m.
