At least three police chases occurred in the Bay Area over the weekend, resulting in six injuries and multiple arrests. The most serious incident involved a chase in San Francisco's Mission District where a fleeing SUV collided with a parklet, injuring six people.
Several police chases unfolded across the Bay Area over the weekend, resulting in multiple arrests and at least six reported injuries. The most significant incident occurred in San Francisco's Mission District Sunday afternoon. Police pursued a driver in an Audi Q7, who allegedly refused to stop. During the chase, the SUV collided with the Napper Tandy's parklet at the intersection of 24th Street and South Van Ness Avenue, according to witnesses.
Six individuals sustained injuries in the crash, including a mother and child. Two women were apprehended following the collision, but further details regarding the incident remain unavailable. The reasons behind the police pursuit of the SUV, classified as 'wanted,' are unclear.Earlier on Sunday in San Francisco, authorities responded to a request for assistance in locating another 'wanted' vehicle. This pursuit began around 11 a.m. as the driver entered San Francisco from the East Bay. Videos capture the chase as police intercepted the car south of Market Street. The driver subsequently sped away, rejoining the Bay Bridge. This maneuver ended when the vehicle collided with a police cruiser, leading to the driver's arrest. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported during this incident. On Saturday evening, the California Highway Patrol reported a chase involving 45-year-old Christopher Andalis, who allegedly evaded Vallejo police. Andalis led officers on a pursuit along Interstate 80. The CHP did not disclose the reason for the pursuit but stated that Andalis eventually entered the San Pablo Lytton Casino, where he was apprehended. Newly elected Supervisor Jackie Fielder, representing the Mission District, expressed a desire to investigate the underlying cause of the Sunday chase. Following a November voter-approved measure, police are authorized to pursue suspects in a broader range of circumstances. 'If it wasn't something less than an imminent threat to someone's life, I think it's worth asking if it's worth sending six people to the hospital,' Fielder commented
